About DeStance
Transforming intercultural communication through education
Our aim
Develop linguistic strategies for inclusive, non-discriminatory discourse.
Raise awareness of how racism, xenophobia, and bias surface in everyday language and media.
Provide accessible, research-informed training that strengthens intercultural understanding.
Measure learning impact with pre- and post-course questionnaires and reflective activities.

How DeStance works
Micro-MOOCs, quizzes, and tasks. Three short modules combine self-check quizzes, interactive tasks, and guided reflection to build skills progressively.
The de-centring pathway. Learning is scaffolded across Epistemic → Emotional → Effective stages — moving from recognising how knowledge is framed, to empathic engagement, and finally to articulating values and action.
AI-assisted formative feedback. Learners receive metalinguistic feedback on stance (epistemic/emotional/effective) to support revision and deeper reflection.
Educator dashboard. Instructors can monitor progress, download individual/group reports, and target feedback.
Accessible by design. The platform is mobile-friendly and developed with WCAG-aligned accessibility in mind.
Free & certificated. Courses are free, with a certificate of completion available.
Who is it for?
Designed for foreign-language learners (especially in higher education), pre-service teachers, and educators seeking a structured, research-informed pathway to critical and intercultural pedagogy.

Impact & evaluation
Pre/post questionnaires and brief reflection prompts bookend each module.
Progress can be tracked using length-normalised metrics, alongside qualitative feedback.
Downloadable summaries help learners and instructors visualise growth over time.
